I hear banging when plumbing is used..Is it air?

Chances are it isn't. It just doesnt happen "out of the blue". It could be water hammer , a bracket in the wall has broken causing pipes to rattle and bang. But chances are it's a loose washer, defective cartridge or valve.Usually a very simple fix !

I hear humming now and then throughout the house.

  This is almost always a toilet somewhere in the premises that needs new tank parts.

My laundry tap makes a swooshing noise all the time.Am I loosing water?

Yes.. I'm willing to bet if you touch the taps they are hot. Laundry taps either need repair or replacement.This can be a damaging problem,puts alot of stress on your system,especially if it is hot water passing.Tank is always working to stay hot and think of the money down the drain !

Our basement has a terrible sewer smell.Whats up ?

   A common problem in older houses in Toronto.

This can be a very dangerous and a health issue.Chances are it is coming from a floor drain in the basement.Check your floor drains to see that they are holding water.They should always have water in them.

It's freezing outside !! And I think my pipes are frozen to my bathroom upstairs.But I still have water everywhere else.Are my pipes frozen?

  Yes it certainly sounds like it.Please whatever you do , don't allow a company or handyman tackle this problem with anything other than electronic thawing equipment.

I have seen places torn apart, walls knocked out , ceilings ,cupboards.Just ridiculous!

        Without the thawing equipment it is almost impossible to correct.We don't recommend this situation be left unattended to...Here's why !

 Just because a pipe has frozen doesn't mean it has burst or been damaged.Sometimes we thaw lines and that is it, problem solved.Once in awhile customers decide to take a wait and see approach.Here is the problem.If the pipes do split when frozen.They DO NOT NECESSARILY leak right away.The ice holds the water back.Once it thaws then it lets loose.Imagine it letting loose 4 days after it froze and your at work.Trust me....been there , seen the results.Not something you wanna see in your living room!!! Thaw the lines get the water running, if there is a split at least we are there to manage and repair the problems with minimal damage.

Can I flush various bathroom products down my toilet?

Please... Only flush what is supposed to go down the toilet...

Never flush Q-tips , feminine napkins , paper towels , baby wipes , fishtank debris , kitty litter , dental floss , dinner or your tooth brush !  Did I miss anything ?
